Love is More

Architecture and illustration are fields that come hand in hand. The first, solid and real, represents something objetive and acts as a container. The second one, flexible in format, is subjective to the eye of the beholder and represents a series of feelings and moods of a certain person in a period of given time.

I recently came across a series of illustrations made by 퍼엉(Puuung). The artist captures moments of the love life in beautifully drawn scenarios. What is really remarkable about these illustrations is the importance the artist gives to the architecture surrounding each scene. How lines stretch and ceilings get higher depending on the mood of the characters, how views are always framed and how the characters make meaningful use of the space. The artist does an amazing architectural interpretation of each scene’s psychology.

The human side of architecture in these illustrations is fascinating.

My favorite is #26, yours?

  1. Virginia, what a find! Thanks for sharing the work of this artist. You make an excellent point about how he plays with architecture to set the mood. That said, my favorite is #2–so intimate!

    • I hadn’t heard about this artist before either, I immediately liked his work though! #2 is such a common scene, that it is extremely beautiful. Love the architectural backgrounds, each of them is different and creative!

    • I really like the house’s attic of #8 and the swimming pool inside the house! I agree on how our spaces are defined being so integral to our lives. I find interesting how we, depending on our age, aspirations and projects, use space so differently. I bet your house in Istanbul had little to do with your current home!

    • I’m so happy somebody mentioned the stairs! Such an important piece of all the drawings, what a great eye 😉 #17 is my favorite of those!

  2. This guy is kinda famous right now..
Loved the fact that you mentioned architecture in there. It does bring out the life in these pics. That casual and natural environment they are in. All that love made me ignore it at first.
    Amazing work. 🙂

    • He is! I really liked the archcitectural background of these illustrations too, it brings its human side. I have to admit that some of these are a bit cheesy but the quality of the drawings is amazing 😀 Any favorites on the list?

      • I like so much the number 1 for its technique of aerial perspective and its tenderness.
I like number 10 for its harmony and peace between all actors. I do not forget the detail of the little bird.
The number 18 surprises me like it surprise the cat, because I don’t know who is the character who learns to swim.
I like the number 19 for its lovely sense, but has some slightly sexist elements.
I love the number 20 because it describes a little happiness. Here I see better the character of the number 18, without knowing who he is.
In resume I like all a lot, because they are very tender.
You want to make me mourn? Excuse my poor english expression. Thanks for all ❤

  3. As a lover or architecture I find these drawings intriguing… what a beautiful home this couple lives in (if only in the artist’s imagination)… at drawing #5 they acquired a cat who appears in almost all the drawings after that… I found myself looking for it!
